Day For Waving A
Day for Waving
is the story of one woman’s journey. Lucy has had a long and fruitful life. On
the final day she remains awake all night waiting for daylight to come and
during this time reflects on her life from childhood. It is a journey from
darkness into light.
On one level it is a story of family life in ten scenes
covering a period of about seventy years in the 20th century. We see
how the family develops and changes with all its triumphs and tragedies. Her
father was a liberal Protestant Minister, her mother a talented musician. Her
brother was the black sheep and her husband, Cain, the son of a Rationalist.
The book also concerns itself with certain philosophical
issues. In her youth Lucy rejects her Christian upbringing and becomes a
Rationalist. Cain, on the other hand, undertakes the reverse process. In her
musings Lucy presents her opinions on life, death and religion. There are issues
which concern everyone from time to time however there is no attempt to preach,
nor any certain resolution.

Critique by Cathy Gladstone
In his book, 'A Day for Waving,' Brian E Turner writes a philosophical story about human beliefs as seen through a dying woman. He builds his story around the premise: "It's not what you believe: It's what you are that counts." This book, listed as fiction, has layers within layers to help the reader discover a new path for himself. Brian's style is friendly and chatty, without lecturing, but filled with important incidents for the more provocative reader to question.
