Culinary Delight and the Word
In 1248, under the reign of Saint Louis, King of France, the Guild “Des Oyeurs” was established, later renamed “Les Rôtisseurs”. In 1950, professionals and gastronomes met in Paris and decided to renew the Corporation. La Confrèrerie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs aims at gathering professionals, gastronomes and amateurs of dining, the culinary art and the grill. La Chaîne, with headquarters in Paris, counts by now more than 100 National Bailliages and some 25000 members.
Each National Bailliage organizes from time to time a Grand Chapître, where new members are inaugurated with the symbols of the Confrèrie and veterans are progressing in the ranks with full honors. It is an opportunity for interesting excursions and culinary highlights. Since some years, members of the Netherlands Bailliage travel together to Grand Chapîtres in other countries.
During these trips, Moshé Liba, partner of An de Bijll Nachenius, Chevalier d’Honneur, who is a writer and a poet, has written some of his poems. Interested in the places he visits and the people he meets, Moshé Liba, a retired diplomat, depicts in verse, with an acute sense of observation and a touch of humor, the landscape of countries and towns, the atmosphere and the variety of restaurants, the behavior of people and the bonds of friendship promoted by these encounters.
I extend a word of thanks and appreciation to our poet, who is not only an artist of the word, but also someone who knows to enjoy the products of the land and the company of the people who enjoy it together with him. This collection brings to light the interests of Moshé Liba, through the poems in which he describes the happenings – the Grand Chapîtres- of the oldest culinary guild- La Confrèrerie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
